The lack of agreement on what constitutes adolescence limits our ability to gener-
alize results.
2) The majority of research has tended to be retrospective in nature. Study partic-
ipants are asked to look back on their responses to a death (usually a parent) at a
later period in life. The result is tremendous variability in the time of reported
responses from when the death took place.
