ABSTRACT
The challenge facing teachers is how best to use the computer to develop those aspects of literacy which are seen to be essential elements contributing to the development of the literate pupil, namely the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Although in practice these skills are inextricably linked, it is possible to identify ways in which the computer can be used to teach each of these more specifically.
