Like Spring, this Harley lyric is another fine example of the reverdie. The lover complains (1. 32) that his longing is making him turn, literally, “green,” but there is presumably no intention of comic exaggeration here, for the adjective had a more neutral sense in Middle English than it does in Modern English.
