ABSTRACT
John Barbour was born about 1316, studied at Aberdeen and Oxford and probably also in France, and became an archdeacon of Aberdeen. He received various emoluments from King Robert II, presumably as a reward for his having undertaken the writing of The Bruce. He died in Aberdeen in 1395.
