ABSTRACT
John Lydgate (ca. 1370–ca. 1450) spent most of his life as a Benedictine monk in the wealthy monastery of Bury St. Edmunds, in West Suffolk. With the assistance of the great monastic library there, he wrote numerous lengthy and highly derivative works for a variety of distinguished patrons.
