ABSTRACT
This chapter includes a brief description of Native Americans in relation to several socioeconomic indices. Aspects of education and early work experience additionally are presented in view of their impact on career development followed by a description of an acculturation continuum. Then, three psychological theories (person-environment theory, social learning theory, and ecological psychology theory) are described. Finally, the three theories are discussed as they apply to the career development of Native Americans.
