ABSTRACT

A given layout in the environment can support a variety of different actions for an individual. Faced with multiple possibilities for action, a person must choose among them based on his or her needs and intents to act upon those needs. Regardless of whether the perceiver is aware of making this “choice,” the perceiver must select a course of action which matches environmental offerings to the perceiver’s needs (J. J. Gibson, 1979; Mark, 1987; Warren, 1984).
