ABSTRACT
The opening chapter by Sandra L. Hofferth is a descriptive piece building on information obtained from two recent studies of child care: The National Child Care Survey (Eisker, Hofferth, Phillips, & Farguhar, 1990; Hofferth, Brayfield, Deich, & Holcomb, 1991) and the Profiles of Child Care Setting Study (1990; Kisker, Hofferth, & Phillips, 1991). These data are the most recent nationally representative child-care data available.
