ABSTRACT

A headwaiter at a restaurant in Boulder (JC) is able to remember complete dinner orders from over 20 people at several different tables without making use of external aids like pencil and paper. JC discovered that people noticed that he was memorizing their orders and that he could serve people better when their orders were stored in his memory. The result was that he received larger tips, which motivated him to further develop his memory skills. This chapter describes our analysis of JC's memory skills.
