ABSTRACT

Antisocial behavior, including school violence, is a complex area of extreme social importance. It is a continual problem affecting all areas of the United States and all socioeconomic levels. Though rates of crime were dropping overall during 1992-1999, reports show that about 2.5 million children under age 18 were arrested (Snyder, 2000), and more juveniles were locked up in secure detention centers, training schools, jails, and prisons than ever before (partially because many

states are emphasizing longer and more punitive sanctions rather than treatment or prevention) (Puritz & Shang, 1998).
