ABSTRACT

A Poem Beginning with a Line by Pindar "A Poem Beginning with a Line by Pindar" is one of Robert Duncan's most complex and interesting works. Written in 1957, it was conceived of as a central part of his first major collection, The Opening of the Field (1960). Throughout his career Duncan drew from the influence of fellow writers of the Black Mountain School· in "A Poem Beginning with a Line by Pindar" he illustrates their precepts while drawing from a wider range of Western poetry and art.
