ABSTRACT

Although still in a formative stage of development, there is a growing body of literature documenting the interrelationships between family factors and health and illness in psychology (e.g., Turk & Kerns, 1985) and in medicine (e.g., Henao & Grose, 1985; Ramsey, 1989). In psychology, the disciplines of health psychology and pediatric psychology have begun to recognize and address such factors. In a similar manner, the development of family medicine as a recognized discipline is indicative of the growing interest and attention to family factors.
