ABSTRACT

Reconstituted families often need help in establishing new traditions and rituals. This exercise helps them become closer to lighten holiday tensions and build a history of specialness which can help the family to move through difficult times. Reconstituted families often need help in establishing new traditions and rituals. Most likely the tradition or ritual will be more powerful if it is an appropriate time capsule and in an air of seriousness. Although most traditions are centered on holidays and special times, many families have found it beneficial to create their own traditions which are not tied to holidays. The trainer may want to develop a list of traditions which other families have found to be helpful to them. Some families will need special encouragement to think creatively. By thinking creatively the family may avoid the pain of traditions from their previous families. Traditions often get families in touch with the loss of group members.
