ABSTRACT

This exercise helps the family or group to share feelings in a metaphorical and symbolic way. The result is that the family/group becomes closer. Chalkboard and markers are used for recording comments. The exercise provides an opportunity for emotional identification and sharing of feelings. The story acts as a springboard to talk about feelings, values, and goals. Stories facilitate self-exploration. The relationship of the feeling evoked by the story provides self-understanding for group members. The relationship of the feeling evoked by the story provides self-understanding for group members. It develops more skill in talking and sharing feelings and help group members form closer relationships. It provides practice incorporating thoughts and feelings into congruent behavior. Some people have difficulty recognizing and labeling a feeling. The trainer needs to be cautious of intellectualization or evoking feelings that members may not be prepared to handle.
