This text was delivered as the introductory address to the first open meeting of Mattachine Midwest, held at the Midland Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, in July 1965. Robert Sloane was at that time the president of Mattachine Midwest. The “Scott case” mentioned is Scott v. Macy (1965).
