ABSTRACT

This address was given by the British theologian W. Norman Pittenger in Chicago to a special service hosted by the Good Shepherd Parish of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) at 615 West Wellington in August 1975. Pittenger had been guest preacher at the MCC conference in July 1975 and at the first national Integrity conference, also held in Chicago in August 1975. His remarks were prefaced by an introduction by Patrick Townson, Gay Pride chairman and head of the committee that planned the program. The poem quoted, “The Penalty of Love,” is attributed to the Irish writer Sidney Royse Lysaght.
