ABSTRACT
Scientists typically claim that the scientific method is value free and that moral responsibility is not an issue in basic research. As scientists, cognitive theorists often hold similar views. Consequently, convention restricts scientific analyses to statements about what we know and cognitive theory to statements of how we know. It is left to ethics to tell us what to do about it.
