ABSTRACT

Essays on methodological strategies in the study of species-typical behavior tend to be chided by biologists on the basis that such information has already been acquired by every serious student of zoology and/or ecology as part and parcel of classroom education and research experience, particulary field research. The view that is often expressed is that, although such information is accurate and correct, it does not merit explication because of its presumed pervasiveness in the minds of researchers.
