ABSTRACT

This paper discusses my most recent work in the area of modelling human memory. It presents a theory of MOPs (Memory Organization Packets) and TOPs (Thematic Organization Points), which serve as both processors and organizers of information in memory. This enables effective categorization of experiences in episodic memory, which in turn enables better predictive understanding of new experiences. This theory is motivated in part by the results of psychological experiments based on my earlier theory of scripts. The theory explicitly addresses the phenomena of reminding and reconstructive memory.
