ABSTRACT
Biblical stories of Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob, and Joseph (of the manycolored coat) and his brothers indicate that an interest in sibling relationships is hardly a new phenomenon for the nonscientist. To say that social scientists were attentive to the mother, then the father, then the sibs, would be a tidy but not entirely justified summary.
