ABSTRACT

How do we make decisions about other people? How do we choose a doctor, decide between prospective employees, or choose a date? The purpose of this chapter is to illustrate a novel approach to the study of decisions made about other people. The approach incorporates features of three widely used techniques in the study of human judgment and decision making: information integration, multiple regression, and binary choices. Although these techniques have been extensively applied in previous judgment research, they have not been applied jointly before. As demonstrated in the studies reported here, however, when used in a complimentary fashion these techniques have considerable potential for understanding complex social judgments.
