ABSTRACT

Approximately 31 million American women and men are attending colleges or universities in this country. In the age group of women who are 18–19 years old, 39% are college students. This percentage decreases as age increases, but even in the 30–34 year age range 7% of women are still in college (National Center for Education Statistics, 1980). Thus, the population of women who are college students represents a significant proportion of the young women in America.
