ABSTRACT
As clinicians, we are not usually also epistemologists, that is, we have no training in that branch of science that studies the origin and nature of knowledge. The implications and consequences of this are far-reaching and certainly go well beyond my own meager training in philosophy. However, I believe that at least some basic epistemological considerations determine the direction our field is taking, and they thus do enter into the subject matter of this conference.
