ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will discuss four points related to Gestalt therapy’s concept of the self. The first concerns the special significance of a sense of self for people in search of their identity. With regard to my second point, I will discuss a unified sense of self and its relation to constituent selves. Next, I will introduce a revised perspective of introjection, one that makes clear how vital introjection is to the early formation of selves, as well as to the reconstruction of selves. Finally, I will specify three therapeutic procedures that will tap into the infusion potential of the introjection process.
