ABSTRACT

Since the 1985 first Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference, a number of our “giants” have died. Virginia Satir, with her high spirits, is no longer with us. Carl Rogers, with his great integrity, is gone. Bruno Bettelheim, with his charming fairy tales, has left us. And Ronnie Laing, a close friend of many of us, also is gone. * When I was talking to the organizers of this conference, I asked, “But our chief heroes have now left us. What shall we do?” One cannot imagine that there could be four persons who were more central to our work, our aims, and our hopes than those I mentioned who are now gone.
