ABSTRACT

This rare presentation expresses the deep existential vision of Rollo May, who reminds us that the work of psychotherapy is soul searching and not technique. There are many things to learn, but why we are learning them has to do with the soul. To begin, as Rollo May did, with an invocation of the dead seems to me appropriate, because every tradition has to have its ancestors. To ask about the evolution of a field is not merely to look at the process of its history and of its ideas, but also to recollect its lore.
