ABSTRACT
During the last 12 years I have been a member of the Mount Zion Psychotherapy Research Group, headed by Drs. Harold Sampson and Joseph Weiss. Our group has been studying the empirical evidence for a new psychoanalytic theory, developed by Dr. Weiss and informally referred to by our group as “control-mastery” theory. * My own use of this theoretical point of view and many years of supervision with Drs. Sampson and Weiss have very much influenced my own work as supervisor of graduate students in clinical psychology at the University of California at Berkeley.
