ABSTRACT

This paper will review briefly certain pressures put upon the supervisor and supervisee during formal psychoanalytic supervision and contrast them with those put upon the training analyst and analysand. Emphasized particularly will be the dyadic, preoedipal areas of narcissistic vulnerability and self-esteem that are so prevalent for both participants in the supervisory process. Oedipal issues in relation to the triadic aspects of this teaching and learning relationship will also be discussed.
