ABSTRACT

Clinicians have long recognized a relation between aggression and suicide. For example, psychoanalysts have often stated that suicide is an expression of anger turned inward. A number of studies have reported that about 30 percent of violent individuals have a history of self-destructive behavior, while about 10–20 percent of suicidal persons have a history of violent behavior (Bach-Y-Rita and Veno, 1974; Tardiff and Sweillam, 1982; Skodal and Karasu, 1978).
