ABSTRACT

Treatment-by-environment of post-traumatic stress reaction offers particular strengths not immediately available to clinicians working in a strictly individual therapy setting. The point of view is that of an individual who worked in both out- and inpatient settings but who is now functioning almost entirely on an inpatient program. The program’s stated purpose is to treat post-traumatic stress disorder among women and men Vietnam War veterans. While what follows is specifically related to that particular population, it is suggested that the basic principles are applicable to a wide range of severe trauma survivors.
