ABSTRACT

A distinguishing feature of Milton Erickson's work was his emphasis on individualizing hypnosis and psychotherapy through careful treatment planning. A review is presented of the manner in which he utilized the background interests, life experiences, personality needs, and cognitive sets of patients. However, the therapist's ability to follow Erickson's model is often limited by the lack of background information about the patient.
