ABSTRACT

I was trained by Ackerman Institute faculty. Consequently, my orientation is systemic and eclectic. This intervention reflects strategic, Bowen, and Satir family therapy models, among others. Family systems' theoretical base supports assisting individuals in assuming responsibility for themselves relative to their behavior, feelings, and interaction within the system. Inasmuch as family of origin generational patterns and messages impact upon what is going on within the nuclear system and determines family rules, roles, and interactions, exploration of the latter is required with many troubled families. I use whatever interaction is indicated in helping families resolve their issues.
