ABSTRACT
This intervention is a form of multiple sensory impacting (MSI). It consists not only of an insight-oriented discussion of transactional marital issues, but a visual and, in this case-example, a tactile/thermal experience of the issue. In the example, a blanket was used as a physical metaphor for emotional suffocation and was used to envelop an abusive husband during a marital session. In other cases, appropriate metaphors can strategically rebalance power structures in marriages.
