ABSTRACT

In Part II of this monograph, the individual demonstration projects described their service programs and populations and presented some data on outcomes. The next step is to abstract from these individual experiences the general principles and relationships which appear consistently across projects. Where project findings are inconsistent it is useful to begin exploring possible explanations for these differences as they relate to the input variables. This chapter cuts across the different demonstration projects, compares their findings, identifies methodological problems inherent in the study of different factors, discusses some of the broader issues in the study of community-based systems of long term care, and proposes an alternative approach to community-based research and demonstration in long term care.
