Drug use, and problems arising from that use, are escalating within the UK and elsewhere (Home Office, 1990; Gossop and Grant, 1991). Most drug users exist within a social context which includes family members as parents, partners, or children; yet almost no research has been conducted which examines the impact on families of having a problem drug user as a member.
