ABSTRACT

We present a methodology for CBD that integrates whole design cases, pieces of cases (subcases), generic design prototypes, and skeletal design plans into a single framework. Each case is viewed as a collection of components. Viewing a case in this way allows adaptation through replacement of components by defining new problems based on the overall problem goal and the internal problem-solving state. Interconnections between components allow the reuse of solution substructures rather than entire components. We describe three systems, ASP-II, PANDA, and BENTON, that share the mentioned integrated methodological framework.
