ABSTRACT

Robert looked down the list of job descriptions. All but two were out of the question. Either he had no training, or they involved work that definitely was beneath him (not that he would ever admit to having such feelings). The two survivors were not terrific, but they might turn out to be okay. He dialed the phone number for the first one. The person who answered did not sound enthused, and as she talked it became clear to Robert that the job simply was not for him. He would feel awful in a week and the job clearly was not going to lead anywhere. He called the other job with much the same result. The rent might need paying, but he would keep on looking until something more promising came along—perhaps in tonight's paper.
