ABSTRACT
A low concentration of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) has been associated with an increased risk of suicide attempts, unprovoked interpersonal violence, and early onset alcoholism in men. These findings have been among the most replicated in modern biological psychiatry (Roy, Virkkunen, & Linnoila, 1991).
