ABSTRACT
This paper outlines a general proposal for a theory of semantic structuring. The proposal focuses on a set of semantic structuring notions proposed by Talmy, and on relations between closed class elements of a sentence and the semantic structural interpretation carried by the sentence. The theory is cast within the connectionistbased formal framework of Optimality Theory, and makes predictions about the semantic structural interpretations of sentences.
