ABSTRACT

First a test: Look at Fig. 2.1 and try to identify the object in the scene. We suspect that virtually all readers of this book, graduate students and professors in psychology or related fields, will be able to name the object in the foreground almost immediately. This scene has been celebrated in so many textbooks written for introductory psychology, cognitive psychology, and perception courses that most readers now see the dalmatian with little time or effort expended.
