ABSTRACT

The papers in this volume seek to illuminate relationships among the cognitive style of field dependence-independence (FDI) and biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of human functioning across the life span. All of these chapters, with the exceptions of those by Goodenough, Oltman, Snow, Cox, and Markowitz (chap. 8) and Demick and Wapner (chap. 12), were presented at the conference on which this volume is based. A brief synopsis of the chapters contained in the volume follows to help orient the reader.
