ABSTRACT

This chapter by Ramadhar Singh is a tour de force in cognitive psychology. One problem concerns imputations, that is, inferences about missing information. A second concerns an alternative interpretation of the ostensible multiplying rule, Gift size = Generosity × Income. Previous work had shown a linear fan pattern, as predicted by the hypothesized multiplying rule. This linear fan pattern, however, could also be produced by an averaging rule with differential weighting.
