ABSTRACT

Although decision researchers and students of group processes have identified many kinds of errors and biases in group decision making, it remains an important and frequently-occurring aspect of life in most organizations. This chapter describes a system designed to counter communication and information processing problems in group deliberation and choice. It focuses on the design and use of an advanced group decision support system (GDSS) first installed at the University of Arizona, and subsequently, at other academic and industrial sites. The authors describe the behavioral realm in which the system is intended to operate, design features, and users’ reports about their experiences with the system.
