ABSTRACT

The Sustainable Agricultural Village Enterprise (SAVE) was undertaken through the Farming Systems Approach (FARMS). It was initiated by the Farming Systems and Soil Resources Institute of the UP at Los Banos. A primary objective of this initiative was the institutionalization of agricultural technologies within farming communities, and all efforts were made to help farmers use technologies which would optimize their resource use, and have positive impacts on their environment and socio-economic well-being. One of the goals of the SAVE-FARMS Lucban is the improvement and further development of existing farming systems through the integration of aquaculture technologies. A major objective of the Lucban Inland Aquaculture Technology Options Project was to improve farming systems in the area by demonstrating the benefits of using new aquaculture technologies, and showing how these new technologies could complement indigenous knowledge and existing farm resources.
