ABSTRACT

‘Ecofisheries’ integrates the theory of ecology with freshwater fish-farming, with only natural resources used as inputs. By using pond water on the land the system circulates matter and energy, and optimizes the use of grain and energy. Ponds were constructed on marshlands overgrown with reeds and weeds on the Pingyin Fishery and Livestock Farm. The Pingyin Fishery and Livestock Farm raised cows, pigs and chickens, and all animal sheds were built on raised fields near the ponds. The levels of productivity associated with the use of different manures for fish farming were compared and analysed. Fish ponds must be disinfected with quick lime, and fertilizer (20% of the total dung) must be applied to the subsoil. The integration of fish culture with livestock and poultry is an efficient model based on the theory of ecological economy. In the system all required matter was produced on the farm except for high quality chicken feed.
