ABSTRACT

The topic suggested to me for this volume gave me pause at first, because I believe that the aims, policies, and standards of for-profit child care providers are much the same as those of anyone else in the child care business. But reality is what is perceived, and some do not perceive the similarities, so I spell them out here. Of necessity my frame of reference is Kinder-Care, but I believe that the examples I draw from our program have parallels throughout the proprietary segment of the child care industry.
