ABSTRACT

Affect Centered Therapy holds the promise of providing lasting treatment for many forms of substance abuse disorder because it appears to effectively address the true causes of the disorder. ACT is derived from a developmental model that accurately describes the etiology of addictive behaviors. The developmental model is supported by a large body of empirical evidence (Sroufe, 1997). ACT itself is supported by clinical impressions and limited single case design studies (Omaha, 1998, July 11; 1999, June 19; 2000, September 10).
