ABSTRACT

The origin of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) began with the very simple question of what do therapists do that is helpful to clients? Later, this question was expanded to: What do therapists and clients do together that clients say is helpful? This question logically leads to training that emphasizes practical techniques that have proven to work over time. My own experience initially as a trainee and currently as a trainer is that the clear majority of time spent in training is on introducing solution-focused questions and how to use them to construct conversations that are helpful to clients.
