ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. The significant trauma caused by domestic violence has become more widely known in recent years as research and conferences focus on this area. The effect on the children exposed to such situations in their own home is an emerging issue. This article discusses the importance of expanding the research, interventions, and prevention programs concerning children exposed to domestic violence, and emphasizes the need for innovative and updated policies in this field. Current theoretical perspectives, intervention techniques and approaches that appear to be successful in dealing with the issues and trauma, prevention programs that have been implemented in the United States and Canada, and recent legal and policy changes regarding these issues are presented in this book.
