ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the varied and significant roles military social workers have served within the mental health service component of military medicine. After a brief overview of military mental health programs, the chapter discusses the clinical services and unique military requirements provided within the mental health programs. The chapter then contrasts mental health and other social welfare programs within the military. The chapter concludes with a reassertion that military social workers need to continue this vital role.
